About Safe Superintelligence (SSI)
Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI) is an AI lab founded by OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever with a single stated goal: building safe superintelligence. The company has no products and no near-term commercial roadmap, instead pursuing one straight-shot research effort. Despite shipping nothing publicly, SSI reached a $32B valuation in 2025, making it one of the most valuable AI labs by capital-per-employee.
Company History
Founded Jun 2024 by Ilya Sutskever (OpenAI co-founder and ex-chief scientist), Daniel Gross, and Daniel Levy after Sutskever's departure from OpenAI. Raised $1B Sep 2024 at a $5B valuation. Raised additional funding at a $32B valuation (2025) led by Greenoaks. Daniel Gross departed to join Meta's superintelligence efforts (2025), with Sutskever becoming CEO. SSI operates in stealth with a single-product focus and no intention of releasing products until safe superintelligence is achieved.
